Bonnie Butter Cake

It’s a Birthday!

Despite all the stress 2020 has brought to many of us, sometimes a homemade cake can make everyone still feel connected.

What is your favorite cake and icing combo? It goes without a doubt that one of my mom’s favorite birthday cakes is the Bonnie Butter Cake. So, pull out the Betty Crocker cookbook, and make this cake for your next birthday or family celebration.


Cake Ingredients

2/3 cup butter (unsalted)

1 ¾ cup granulated sugar

2 eggs

1 ½ teaspoon vanilla

3 cups cake flour

2 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 ¼ cups milk

Icing Ingredients

1/3 cup softened butter

3 cups confectioner sugar

1 ½ teaspoon vanilla

2 -3 tablespoons milk

1. Heat oven 350 degrees. Grease and flour baking pan sized 13x9x2.

2. In a large mixer bowl, mix butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until fluffy

3. Beat 5 minutes on high speed.

4. In separate bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt.

5. On low speed, add the flour, baking powder and salt mixture alternately with milk.

6. Add to baking pan

Bake 45 minutes or until wooden toothpick is clean.

Now, make your icing!!

1. Blend butter and sugar in mixing bowl or with hand mixer.

2. Stir in vanilla and milk until frosting is smooth and your desired consistency.

3. Allow cake to cool and spread frosting evenly.
