If you have any ancestors with roots in the American South or US Civil War, be sure to check out this National Archives resources. –The Freedmen's Bureau --provided assistance to former slaves and the impoverished in the Southern States.


The Bureau was established in 1865 following the Civil War, during a period called Reconstruction. The records demonstrate first hand narratives and accounts, medical records, full names and slave master names and much more. Be sure to explore this resource!
